Bottle garden watered 42 years ago continues to thrive in its sealed environment. David Latimer from Cranleigh, Surrey, UK first planted his bottle garden in 1960 and last watered it in 1972 before tightly sealing it shut 'as an experiment'. The hardy spiderworts plant inside has grown to fill the 10-gallon container by surviving entirely on recycled air, nutrients and water.
